Book Review: The Flat and Weightless Tang-Filled Future

I’m a firm believer that you can tell a lot about a writer’s ability by how well they are able to write a short story and author Lyn Fairchild Hawks collection of short stories The Flat and Weightless Tang-Filled Future is a very good indication that this lady is headed places in the literary world.

I can’t say that any one story stood out; each short story, in the limited time space, was extremely well written with amazing character development. The stories were well laid out and the various characters made sense to me as a reader. I believed these people and could see each story actually happening in real life which is remarkably rare in this age of easy publishing.

The various stories within The Flat and Weightless Tang-Filled Future also contained issues that we all deal with each and every day; racism, sexism, abuse and the like were all handled by Fairchild Hawks in a manner that was straightforward yet not offensive. This is also a very good indicator that this writer has lived a bit before claiming to be a writer.

I give this collection 4 stars and highly recommend The Flat and Weightless Tang-Filled Future.
